ANLIL started Sun and Moon as a letter from the Moon to the Sun; something intimate and aching. Then Buccalini came in and responded as the Sun, like he was writing back across the void. They each wrote their own parts. ANLIL also produced the track, shaping its ethereal feel from the ground up. The mix came from Grammy-nominated engineer Jeff Jackson, known for his work with Brent Faiyaz, Durand Bernarr, and HBO Max, who brought out the emotional tension and balance between both voices.
