A secret whispered in the dark early morning on July 2nd… That’s how ANLIL’s latest song, “Forbidden,” feels. It’s like she’s sharing something personal, something we’ve all felt but never quite put into words. Join us as we uncover the emotions woven into the fabric of “Forbidden” and explore the world of ANLIL’s music.

Q: ANLIL, congratulations on the release of “Forbidden”! Can you share with us the inspiration behind this deeply personal track?

A: Thank you so much! “Forbidden” was born out of feelings of being drawn to someone new, while in a relationship that’s fallen apart. Opening up about ‘Forbidden’ was tough and a little scary, but I felt like candidness was needed.

Q: Your music has always had a unique blend of influences. Can you tell us about some of the artists or albums that inspired “Forbidden”?

A: I’ve always been drawn to artists who push boundaries. Listening to Fiona Apple‘s raw honesty on “Tidal,” the soulful storytelling of Lauryn Hill‘s “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” and the experimental sounds of Massive Attack and Portishead have all influenced my approach to music and this album.

Q: We understand that “Forbidden” is the third song off your upcoming album. Can you give us a glimpse into the overarching theme or concept of the album?

This album is a deeply personal storyline of a few moments in my life: falling out of toxic relationships and falling into self-love and healthy thoughts and actions. I also felt being more open about the challenges we face in a heavily saturated digital era, and how the media to news to content we’re fed can be crucial for the quality of our lives and minds.

Q: What do you hope listeners take away from “Forbidden” and the rest of the album?

I hope when you listen to “Forbidden” and the rest of the album, you feel understood, just a little less alone. My music’s about finding strength in our weak moments and connecting with others through them, to help teach and be there for each other.
